Updates - Bewitch 6550 + Border Patrol PSU

Good morning & good day to some of you =)

I apologize I have not been updating my blog for the longest time. Been busy traveling making sure that all telco towers are acquire and safe =). In addition, making arrangement to purchase a new home for myself and my future wife TSP =)

The great news is, I have sold all my rigs expect for the Sonus Faber Cremona auditor and planning big things for the new home when it comes to AV and hifi.

With the additional funds from the sales of my older rig have decided after weeks of auditioning int tube amps (breaking my back carrying the Cremona Auditor around) manage to find the prefect match for the Sonus Faber Cremona Auditor. My budget was +/- RM10 000 / GBP 2000 /USD 3000 .

Surprisingly for Vocals/Jazz (The music I'm into) the winner is the "BEWITCH 6550/KT88" A30 as known in the UK PURESOUND A30.

Was reading a few forum and was a lil skeptical about this lil amp because for these reasons:

1) Even from the same factory, Puresound statement was that the A30 its not the same as the Bewitch.
2) Never did believe any Chinese Amp would sound as good as the famous brands from Europe, America or Japan
3) Skeptical about the built quality, reliability of any chinese amps.

I have to thank a Doctor who is a friend of mine who introduce me to this lil amp and he has been playing hifi for the past 20 years and told me this lil amp can beat anything at sub RM10,000 / USD3000 / GBP 2000 .

AT first didn't believe him... After the auditioning a unit at a Hifi Shop and a home audition from the Doctor who borrowed me the amp for 2 weeks , I have to say... Thank you Doc and ordered one for myself (Export version).

From my understanding that the Bewitch factory produces Local, Export version for this amp. In short there are grades to it. Grade A which is more expensive are for export market and the cheaper ones for local China/HK markets. Sound wise, not too sure an A/B comparison with the PURESOUND but did a few comparison with other famous brands

All in all I must say yes the bewitch is not the same with puresound A30 on paper/email etc. But please do yourself a favor, Audition the bewitch against any int amps that is more expensive around RM10000/ USD3000 / GBP 2000 with your own speaker. You just might be just be as surprised as I was =)

Will match the Bewitch with a Border patrol power supply (which I'm looking at upgrading later) what reviewer says sounds like a damn expensive Ongaku amp. I have the review from HIFI+plus magazine on this little amp with the border patrol. If you want a read this review I can email a copy of this review to you.

The great news from Border Patrol is, now we in South East Asia can purchase the Border Patrol products directly from them. Please note there are not looking into appointing any agents in South east Asia.

Anyway, will update more once the Bewitch is in my hands.

In addition, building up a second system consist of Home theatre B&W, ARCAM and a good sub woofer ( The hunt is on)

Excellent Hifi Pictures

I just went through a blog with beautiful hifi pictures.
Its from a photographer who loves his hifi Mr Ws Lam. Being a former photographer myself I find his collection of Hifi photos to be excellent. Kudos to you Mr Lam from China =)

Check it out at http://photos.lam.ws/Hi-Fi

Magic Under RM400 ( USD100) Enacom S.P

(Magic under RM400) for about USD100
Another thing to add is a wonderful small tweak component from Harmonix, the Enacom S.P. I have personally found that it Cleans up the sound; makes it easier to follow the music.

http://www.positive-feedback.com/ambackissues/enacom.htm

"Enacom by Harmonix (parent company Combak, prior to that, Enokido) is "the easiest -- and least expensive -- way to filter out annoying RF noise as well as the ringing high frequency distortion caused by the inherent load resistance of interconnect cables and speaker wires." There is also an AC Enacom, which is a 2-prong AC plug parallel filter but I haven't tried that. The theory Enacom puts forward is very similar to OCOS. "When a signal travels beyond the output terminals through the interconnect cables and speaker wires, it is tackled by load resistance producing ringing distortion. To make matters worse, RF noise (200kHz - 1 MHz) absorbed by the cables and wires further deteriorates signal quality. This is where Enacom comes to the rescue." Tightly sealed in cylindrical copper casings, the contents of the Enacom are a well-kept trade secret but many people speculate that it is some form of parallel Zobel network (that's why there's no connection polarity to observe). When connecting to a bi-wire speaker, Enacom needs to connect to only the HF terminal.

So far the best value/rice for the Enacom is at (Audiomatic) Amcorp mall PJ 1st floor .

Owner of the shop is Mr Eugene Ngoh 012 3222 698 .Honest fella & not one of those sellers who marks up a price and aspect us to haggle.

So far the Enacom and Amcorp mall in PJ has been good to me.

System in Detail - Primare SPA21

Apologize that I have not been adding more items on the blog. I have been tremendously busy for the last few weeks. Below is the new video on youtube on my system in detail.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n-IL-ZU25qk&feature=channel_page

A fellow audiophile-r asked me why dont I change to a full hifi amplifier. I will in the future but as for now my girlfriend and myself love our movies as how I love listening to the music. So far the Primare spa21 fills my heart with all the sound stage, details, and rhythm.

Who said AV amp cant be musical? I have tried and tried again to find the perfect combo for music and movies and so far the best sounding (audiophile sound) AV amp on 2 channel is the Primare SPA21. Honest to goodness a few consultant in CMY and Singapore said in Hifi mode, the SPA21 sounds in between the Primare I21 & the Primare I30. This sound I suppose was on a 2 channel mode RCA on the SPA21. I then emailed Sumiko and also Primare in Sweden. A friendly consultant from Primare Sweden advice me to hook up the interconnects to the "EXTERNAL" link behind the Amp to make full use of the by pass option on the amp. What I have found out that... FuiYooo! the sound was actually wayyyYyyy better than using the normal 2 channel RCA for music. The sound just opens up and finally the details comes out.

I also did an A/B comparison on the SPA21 and the I30 and I must report in that the SPA21 at External mode comes extremely close to the Primare i30. The only thing that the SPA21 loses out was the bass was not as precise as the i30.

Primare is distributed by CMY Audio. So far I have good experiences with these 4 Primare experts in these branches in Malaysia.

Sunway Pyramid - Richard 03 - 74928551
Balakong - Andy 03 - 90742345
Bukit Bintang John 03 - 21439406
Damansara Uptown CHua 03 - 77272419

The new SPA22 is coming soon. Maybe they can give a discount on the SPA21. NO doubt, the SPA21 is a must buy if you're an audiophile-r but still want to satisfy the family at home with movies =)
